NUTRITIONAL MEDICINE
Nutritional medicine is based on the assumption
that many illnesses, mild and chronic, are caused by nutritional
imbalance and can be cured or alleviated by correcting the
patient's
biochemistry.
NUTRITION CAN NO LONGER BE IGNORED AS BEING IMPORTANT
TO A PERSON'S HEALTH.
Nutritional deficiencies can be obvious with
symptoms such as fatigue, high blood pressure, or glucose
imbalance. Most people in this country have an adequate intake
of calories. We get plenty of carbohydrates, protein and fats.
What we do not get enough of is the micronutrients - the vitamins,
minerals and phytonutrients from fruits and vegetables. Through
testing and symptomolgy, it is often seen that our ratio of
fatty acid types is out of balance as well. With the depletion
of nutrients in our soil, pesticides, harmful additives and
improper handling, the quality of the food we consume is another
very important issue when considering proper nutrition.
In our practice, no review of person's medical history is complete without an indepth review of their nutritional history and present diet. After careful analysis of a person's biochemistry, individualized guidelines are given. When these guidelines are followed, the person has the potential to experience significant positive changes, for example, in vitality, clearer thinking, healthier sleep patterns, energy and in many cases, relief from the initial symptoms. Hippocrates said, "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food." Often this is the case.
